The Power of Presence: Leading at Work and Living Fully at Home

In today’s fast‑paced world, leaders are often pulled in multiple directions—balancing the demands of their organizations with the responsibilities of family and personal life. The challenge isn’t simply about managing time; it’s about cultivating presence.

Presence is more than showing up. It’s the ability to be fully engaged in the moment—whether you’re guiding a team through change or listening to your child share their day. When we are present, we create space for connection, clarity, and impact.

As I reflect on this past week, I realized the importance of presence at work and at home.

I tried to listen deeply – resisting the urge to multitask. Giving my full attention to others, I noticed insights that I would not have otherwise seen. I tried to respond thoughtfully rather than react, building the trust that is foundational with our teams. And a reminder this week at a meeting is that all I do is anchored in values - rooted in clarity and purpose. Presence ensures alignment with what truly matters.

Before I stepped through the door at home, I took the pause – even for a minute, to shift from executive mode to family mode. Create intentional transitions. Be fully there. I resisted taking out the device at dinnertime. Presence communicates love and respect more powerfully than words. Celebrate the small moments – the hug with my daughter, the walk with my dog…presence transforms ordinary routines into meaningful memories.

Why Presence Matters

Presence is the bridge between professional excellence and personal fulfillment. It reminds us that leadership isn’t confined to boardrooms—it extends to our homes, communities, and relationships. By practicing presence, leaders not only inspire their organizations but also nurture the people they love most.

As an executive coach, I help leaders cultivate presence so they can thrive in both spheres of life. Together, we explore strategies to reconnect with what matters most, uncover clarity, and embrace authentic leadership that inspires meaningful change.

Are you ready to lead with presence—at work and at home? I invite you to begin this journey with me.
